Dr. Jason Rinehart
Conductor
Dr. Jason Rinehart joined the faculty of the University of South Alabama in 2016 as Associate Director of Bands and is now also Director of Athletic Bands. At USA he directs the Symphony Band, University Orchestra, Jag Band, and guest conducts the Wind Ensemble; he also directs the Jaguar Marching Band and teaches Horn. Prior to his appointment at USA, Rinehart taught at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music, Benedictine College, and St. Louis Community College. Jason received his Doctorate in Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He also holds degrees from Texas Tech University (Bachelor of Music Education) and Southern Methodist University (Master in Conducting). In addition, Dr. Rinehart studied conducting with David Effron and Gunther Schuller at the Brevard Music Center.  In 2013, Dr. Rinehart was a Finalist for the American Prize in Conducting. Joe Riemer, a native of New Orleans , La., received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Music Education at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. He began his teaching career in 1962 serving as band director at Shaw High School and Davidson High School in Mobile, Al. Subsequently, he has been the band director at Faulkner State Community College, Bay Minette Middle School, and Baldwin County High School. Click HERE for a full bio.

Dr. Jason Rinehart

Conductor

At USA he directs the Symphony Band, University Orchestra, Jag Band, and guest conducts the Wind Ensemble; he also co-directs the Jaguar Marching Band and teaches Horn.  Prior to his appointment at USA, Rinehart taught at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music, Benedictine College, and St. Louis Community College.  
 
Jason received his Doctorate in Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He also holds degrees from Texas Tech University (Bachelor of Music Education) and Southern Methodist University (Master in Conducting). Professional ensembles under his leadership include the Fountain City and St. Louis Brass Bands,  Monroe (LA) Symphony Orchestra, Atchison (KS) Symphony, and the Kansas City Ballet, in addition to numerous collegiate orchestras and wind ensembles, and conducting over forty-two main stage opera and musical productions.  An avid lover of the stage, Jason has also been stage director for such musicals as The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Les Misérables.  Dr. Rinehart also served as conductor for the 2015 New York State Band Directors Association All-State Middle School Band.
 
Dr. Rinehart is in demand as a clinician and has worked with ensembles in Alabama, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mississippi, California, Ohio and Illinois. Jason is in his ninth year as third horn with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra and has played with numerous orchestras in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas and Missouri.  His composition Three Russian Miniatures for Horn and Piano is published by Cimarron Music Press, and his Sing me now asleep for mezzo-soprano and flute was premiered in NYC by Rebecca Ashe and Katherine Crawford.
 
Dr. Rinehart has been involved with the drum and bugle corps activity for over 20 years beginning as a marching member with the Sky Ryders and Phantom Regiment and has previously taught with Pioneer, Capital Regiment, and the Boston Crusaders, the Cadets, and was the Brass Caption Head for the Glassmen, and Spirit of Atlanta.  He now serves as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International.
 
He holds memberships in the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Alabama Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and is an honorary membership with Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.  While at ULM, The Student Government Association awarded Dr. Rinehart the 2014-2015 Faculty Advisor of the Year award for his work with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. 


Joe Riemer

Conductor Emeritus & Music Director
Joe Riemer, a native of New Orleans , La., received his Bachelor and Masters degrees in music education at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. He began his teaching career in 1962 serving as band director at Shaw High School and Davidson High School in Mobile, Al. Subsequently he has been the band director at Faulkner State Community College, Bay Minette Middle School, and Baldwin County High School.

Mr. Riemer was on the board of the Mobile Jazz Festival and was the conductor of its High School All-star Jazz Band, with numerous performances on the Mobile Jazz Festival concert programs. He also holds membership in MENC, the Alabama Bandmasters Association, and the music fraternities Phi Mu Alpha and Phi Beta Mu. He continues to serve as adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor.

Joe is one of the founders of the Mobile Pops and served as one of its co-directors for 10 years. He is also one of the founders of the Baldwin Pops, a community band in Baldwin County, and has served as its music director since its inception in 1997.

Named in 2001 by the Mobile Bay Monthly as one of 25 most influential “Masters of the Arts” for Mobile and Baldwin County, he was also presented, in 2007, with the Fairhope First “Quality of Life” award for his contribution to the enhancement of the quality of life in the Fairhope area. That same year he received the “Arts Volunteer of the Year” award presented by the Mobile Arts Council. In 2008 he was inducted into the Mobile County Band Director’s Hall of Fame and in 2010 he was inducted into the Alabama Music Education Association Hall of Fame.

He and his wife Mary Lou are both retired educators and reside in Fairhope, Al. They have two children and four grandchildren.
