Good Monday morning! Our Holiday / Christmas concerts are this coming Friday and the following Monday and Tuesday. I have lots of information for you in this blog post, so here goes...First of all, Jason's update that was sent out this past weekend:
This week we have our last rehearsal for our Christmas concerts AND our first Christmas concert. Tuesday's rehearsal will be a run-thru of all of the music in program order, and we will fix some things that need to be fixed. PLEASE make sure that you are solid on your parts for Frozen and Minor Alterations especially. Also take a look at Midnight Sleigh Ride before Tuesday. Please also remember that we changed the dress for the concert at last week's rehearsal. We will do black pants (or a long dress), socks, shoes, and a Christmas colored top, OR a festive sweater, but if it has lights, please keep them off while we are playing. See you Tuesday!
As promised, here is the program order:
Holiday Favorites, arr. Lavender
Music from Frozen, arr. Bulla
Rockin Around the Christmas Tree, arr. Tatgenhorst
Minor Alterations - David Lovrien
Sleigh Ride - Leroy Anderson
Midnight Sleigh Ride - Serge Prokofiev, arr. Wallace
Nightmare Before Christmas - Danny Elfman, arr. Brown
The First Noel, arr. Simmons
Jingle Bells, arr. Dawson
I Wonder as I Wander, arr. Wallace
Christmas Sing-Along, arr. Ployhar
Christmas Festival - Leroy Anderson
Next, we have some new members to the band who may not know where our venues are. If you need directions or a map, just click on the underlined address.
Friday, December 3rd is at the Daphne Civic Center which is located at 2603 US Highway 98, Daphne. It is at the intersection of Highway 98 and Whispering Pines Road with a large parking lot out front.
Monday, December 6th is at the Foley Civic Center which is located at 407 E Laurel Ave, Foley. Laurel Avenue is also Highway 98 East. The complex houses the civic center, the library and Riviera Utilities on the far end. Parking is located in the back of the building. I'll have a door open for you so you won't have to walk around to the front. Please leave the spaces in the front for attendees.
Tuesday, December 7th is at the Gulf Shores Cultural Art Center Auditorium which is located at 19470 Oak Rd W, Gulf Shores. Oak Road is also County Road 6 West. As you drive south on Highway 59 from Foley, County Road 6 is clearly marked and there are blue signs prior to the intersection. The center is then less than a mile to the left. Please park in the grass field behind all the buildings and not in the paved parking area as it is limited.
Lastly, we have been invited to perform at the Malbis Mall in front of the big tree again this year. The date is December 12th at 4 p.m. Hopefully it won't be as cold as last year and they promised big heaters! This is perfect for ensemble groups in the band to get together and perform a few Christmas or Jazzy numbers. Let me and/or Anne know if you are interested.
I'll be taking names and numbers of those committed to helping load and unload the truck.
Thanks again for your support of the Baldwin Pops!
Rehearsal Order, Nov. 16, 2021:
Nightmare Before Christmas
Midnight Sleigh Ride
Happy Monday and welcome to November! Thanks to some great proof-readers, here is the corrected blog!
The first thing to share is we have a different email address. It is now: email@example.com. Some of you may remember that one from several years ago.
Now to get ready for our upcoming Christmas / Holiday Concerts. We will have rehearsals beginning Tuesday, November 9th at Robertsdale High School's band room starting promptly at 7 p.m. The rehearsals will continue each Tuesday through November 30th.
The concerts will be held December 3rd at Daphne Civic Center, December 6th at Foley Civic Center and December 7th at Gulf Shores Cultural Center which is located on County Road 6 / Oak Road. All Christmas concerts start at 7 p.m. Since these are inside venues, dress is formal. Suggested attire for Men: black tuxedo or black suit, white shirt and bow tie, black shoes. Ladies: Black dress or black top & long black skirt, black shoes.
On another note...the Baldwin Pops is hiring! That's right, we're looking for a few good young men to help with the set-up crew. Duties include: Loading / unloading our band equipment in the moving truck, concert set-up and tear-down. If you are interested or you know someone who would be a dependable worker, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or text 251-605-8883.
Lastly, your board of directors met last week. The minutes of the meeting are available and attached below.
Thank you for your participation in the Baldwin Pops, I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday night!
Kenny Graves, Executive Director.
Hello...It's Thursday and just a few days away from our next concert!
Sunday, October 17th @ 5 p.m. at the Orange Beach Art Center. This is a great venue for an outdoor concert, when the weather cooperates that is. For those of you who have not had the opportunity to play there or visit the Art Center, it is located at 26389 Canal Road, Orange Beach. The link to their official website is located by clicking here.
There is plenty of parking and there will be folks from the Art Center to help direct you in. Unless there is an update from Jason or Anne, please be there ready to start warming up around 4 p.m. Dress is the same as the Fairhope concert, red band polo and black pants / shorts. I'll have cold, bottled water available. At the conclusion of the concert, please turn in your music folders so we can keep them on file.
I guess that's really all unless there is a last-minute update. I look forward to seeing you all Sunday afternoon for another great Baldwin Pops concert!
Hello and Happy Sunday...It looks like the concert tonight is a "go". I checked the forecast and it looks like clouds and maybe some rain much later tonight. As Anne wrote earlier...
"Please be in your seats at 5:15, ready to spot check a few places Jason wanted to run through.
After the concert, if you all could help clean the concert area. Please don’t leave your empty water bottles on the ground and help put your stand lights and plexiglass back in the boxes . This helps the crew not finish their night close to 11:00pm.
Also there is construction on Magnolia Ave which is one of the main roads to the park . There is a detour you can follow but it will make parking in your normal area a little more difficult. Just a heads up for those coming from Section street west on Magnolia Ave. Thanks and see you at 5:15."
So please be careful and we'll see you later today with your red polos and black pants or shorts ready to go. If you want to come a little early to help set up chairs and lights on stands, that would be great.
Thanks again for participating in the Baldwin Pops!
Hello...I enjoyed tonight's rehearsal and am looking forward to the concerts this Sunday evening and October 17th!
Here is a copy of the program for the concerts...
Happy Monday...Hope you all had a great weekend, the weather was perfect!
Our last rehearsal before this next Sunday's concert in Fairhope is tomorrow night from 7 - 9 p.m. There will be a few members out, including me, participating in the Baldwin County High School Band Jamboree just down the road at the Robertsdale Stadium. We'll probably have a rehearsal list later today or first thing tomorrow.
If you still need a polo shirt, I will have them available prior to Sunday's concert which leads up to a few details:
The concert Sunday evening starts at 6 p.m. and will be held on the bluff at Henry George Park in Fairhope (the same place as the July 4th concert). Again, parking will be limited so please try to carpool. Dr. Rinehart may have a time in mind for you to show up for warm-ups, but usually we get there at least an hour before to get chairs and stands situated. Please wear your red band polos and black pants or shorts.
Thanks again for participating with the Baldwin Pops. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or see your Section Leader.
Hello...just making sure everyone has the rehearsal order for this Tuesday night. Dr. Rinehart sent this list out:
Ballet Music from William Tell
At a Dixieland Jazz Funeral
Salute to the Cinema
If time: March Religioso, Come Thou Fount, Music from a Darkened Theatre
Thanks, see ya later, Kenny
Hello and Happy Sunday afternoon! I enjoyed listening to you rehearse this past Tuesday and look forward to this week. A couple of updates...I have the band polo shirts that were ordered and will hand them out Tuesday. As you may know, membership dues for the Baldwin Pops is still just $40 a year. Most of you paid this past June / July, however, if you have yet to or if you are new to the Pops this fall, please see me Tuesday with cash or check. Full-time students are exempt from dues, however, if you'd like to help offset the cost of your shirt ($20), that would be appreciated. A big thank you to Natalie Woodrow for stepping in to serve as librarian, and to Kristen Hughes for updating the band's website and social media!
Happy Sunday...The next rehearsal is Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at Robertsdale High School Band room. Dr. Rinehart sent out the rehearsal order today, just making sure you all got it. I've been tied up with meetings, but will be there this week. See you there! I ordered some band polos and should have those soon. Here's a copy of Jason's email...
