Happy Monday and Merry Christmas! I hope you are ready for it later this week. To help celebrate, I've posted our latest video here. Thanks again to everyone who participated in this great project and to our ensemble performers who braved the cold weather last Thursday during our Holiday around the Tree concert at Eastern Shore Center! Happy Monday! Well, as you may have heard by now, the Christmas Concerts have been cancelled, however, we have an event scheduled for this Thursday, December 17th at the Eastern Shore Center (Malbis Mall). Here is the announcement from Anne Brooks...
"Because the Christmas Concerts were cancelled and they included small ensemble groups of Pops Members.....it was a shame for their hard work to not be recognized with a safe performance of some kind. We will have signs up around the circle that masks and social distancing around the band are both required. The marketing director at the Eastern Shore Center helped us with a place to play around the large Christmas tree in the center of the mall - see the map attached in your email which is also posted below - the tree is in the large center circle. This Thursday night - we will start at 6:00 with a Flute Trio, Clarinet Ensemble, French Horn Quartet, A Brass Choir and a Jazz Trio. It will be fun to play, even for yourself, and no audience but we will add a little bit of holiday cheer to the patio and passers-by. For the groups - We won't be in uniform or formal attire...whatever is comfortable for the weather that night. (It will be chilly). Folding chairs, music stands and stand lights will be provided for you so you don't have to bring anything other than your instruments and yourselves. In case of rain, we would have to cancel because there is not a covered area to move to. If there is a question on the weather
we will coordinate with the mall representative and make a decision by 3:00. Thanks and I hope you can come listen a bit to our modulated Christmas 2020 Concert.!!!"
Thanks again for your support this year, hope to see you soon. Merry Christmas! Kenny
It was GREAT to see those who came out Sunday, November 22nd for our first rehearsal in a LONG time! We look forward to getting back together at the same place, RHS parking lot, Sunday, December 6th and 13th from 2 - 4 p.m. to prepare our Christmas music. Here are some pics from yesterday's rehearsal. Have a wonderful, restful Thanksgiving holiday! Kenny
Hello all and Happy Thanksgiving...we are getting ready to present Christmas Concerts. Rehearsals start this Sunday afternoon. Hopefully you have received Anne's emailed information and Jason's notes...
Nov 22, RHS , 2-4 pm
Nov 29, No Rehearsal for Thanksgiving Weekend
Dec 6, RHS, 2-4 pm
Dec 13, RHS, 2-4 pm
Our first rehearsal will be this Sunday at Robertsdale High School parking lot from 2-4 pm. We are rehearsing outside to follow
the Covid Protocols of social distancing. With the number of people that have volunteered for this concert, we could not fit distanced in
the bandroom and there are other aerosol studies recommendations making it easier to rehearse outdoors. Although the forecast
is good for this weekend please dress appropriately for outdoor temp and wind if needed.
The band set up will be on the asphalt parking lot south of the main building we usually rehearse in. We will be setting up the seating
with 6 ft spacing between players so it will be a different listening experience and non traditional set up. We will set up chairs, stands
and plexiglass in the set up and please remember a hat or sunglasses as we may have glare depending on where you are sitting.
We ask for you to wear a mask when not playing your instrument to keep us all as safe as possible.
Dec 17, Thursday 6:00 at Foley Heritage Park in front of the Gazebo.
Dec 15th there is a tentative date, waiting on confirmation.
MESSAGE FROM JASON
There are 5 pieces that I have chosen and all of them except one (Rockin Around the Christmas Tree) are in a FLEX format.
If it is a 4-part FLEX, then the part distribution would look like this.
1st Flutes/Oboes should only be playing Part 1
2nd Flutes/1st Clarinets/1st Trumpets/1st Alto should be playing Part 2
2nd&3rd Clarinets/2nd Alto/Tenor Sax/Bassoon/2nd&3rd Trumpets/Horns/1st Trombones should be playing Part 3
Bari Sax/2nd&3rd Trombones/Euphoniums/Tubas/String Bass should be playing Part 4
If it is a 3-part or a 5-part then adjust the parts accordingly. The big thing is to make sure that all parts are being covered throughout the band.
Perhaps section leaders can help with this task.
Repertoire is the following:
Hark the Herald Angels Sing (Julie Giroux)
A Very Merry Public Domain Christmas II (Anthony O'Toole) - we may only do selections of this
Rockin Around the Christmas Tree (arr. Tatgenhorst)
Greensleeves (Richard Saucedo)
Christmas Play Pack (Randall Standridge) - which we could use as our sing-a-long
I hope that this can be a way that we can begin the process of sharing music again with our community.
I look forward to seeing everyone
In between band selections, there will be small ensembles performing music they have prepared.
So Far we have a Flute Choir, Clarinet Choir, Horn Choir, and Jazz Trio. If you have a group
you would like to perform, please reply to this email or bring the information this Sunday.
SEE YOU SUNDAY AFTERNOON!
Hello all! Here's hoping you are doing well and getting ready for Thanksgiving! It has been a crazy year and you are all missed greatly. Good news is...we may have some Christmas concerts coming up. Here is a copy of the email that went out Wednesday, November 11th:
Subject: members of Baldwin Pops Christmas Concert - First rehearsal is coming up and we have only had 25 respond - apologies if this is a duplicate had email group issues. ***Please excuse us if you have already received this email, but some members have reported that they have not received the notice***
URGENT RESPONSES NEEDED - Please go to the google form link below so we can get a head count of who is willing to play and who will be available.
We are trying to get a hybrid concert together on three Sunday afternoon rehearsals. Because of covid protocols we will be rehearsing outside ( weather permitting) and playing a few band pieces with the remainder of the concert being made up of small ensembles from the band. Please go to our survey to read more details of the dates and how we are going to try and keep our holiday concert tradition in 2020!
We have a tentative concert date Dec 17th in the Foley Heritage park - another outdoor evening concert ( Weather permitting)
and we are trying for another in Spanish Fort the week of Dec 14-18 also but that is tentative at this point.
COPY the link below into your browser and answer the questions about rehearsal availability and remember to hit SEND so we can get an idea of what instrumentation we could have...
Thank you and I really look forward to seeing all who want to participate!
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me or Kenny
Hello, here's hoping everyone is doing well or recovering quickly! Have you seen the Baldwin Pops video of "America The Beautiful"? Here it is, enjoy!
I heard a good report on today's recording sessions at RHS Band Room for our music video of "America The Beautiful". This will be used for publicity purposes as we're in "wait and see" mode during the COVID-19 restrictions. Thank you to all who came out and helped to make this possible! Kenny
Anne Brooks created this great video that tells our story this concert season. Hope you enjoy!
Hello all...Well according to our current schedule, we were supposed to start back rehearsing in preparation for the Memorial Day Concerts. Those concerts have been cancelled and the rest of the season, through July 4th, more than likely will be cancelled as well. We are awaiting final word from the city of Fairhope, but it's very iffy at best. So, we will now focus on the possibility of preparing for the Fall Concerts and hopefully get back to normal by Christmas. The board of directors and executive team join you in the disappointment felt during these times and are hoping that each and every member of the band and their families are doing well and remaining safe.
Please stay informed on the latest news and I will be in contact with you should there be any updates. Also, remember to visit the Baldwin Pops Facebook Page from time-to-time.
Thank you, Kenny
Hello all, here's hoping you had a great weekend and are doing well! I'm sure you have been keeping up with the news reports of the spread of COVID-19 and the most recent mandate from Governor Kay Ivey to shelter in place through April 17th. Our executive team and board of directors is very concerned as you are about this health pandemic, however, we don't have any concrete answers about when practices can resume or concerts for that matter. As of this writing (3/29), the Memorial Day Concerts have been either cancelled or postponed. We are also awaiting official word from the City of Fairhope regarding the 4th of July celebration and concert / fireworks. Please know that we are monitoring the health crisis and our top priority is the health and safety of our band members. Please keep practicing your instruments during this time. We may be able to work out a plan to get you your folders and send audio links so you can at least be familiar with the music should we be able to resume as normal sooner. As soon as we see an end to this, an updated rehearsal / performance schedule will be released. I have heard from a few of you about how you miss practicing and playing together. We have a wonderful community band and I miss seeing and hearing you as well.
Take care of yourselves. I hope to have better news for you soon.
