Wayne Fillingim
Conductor and Music Director
Wayne Fillingim, a resident of Daphne, is delighted to serve as the conductor of the Baldwin Pops Community Band. He has performed with the Baldwin Pops since 2013 as a member of the saxophone section and occasionally as a guest vocalist. He also served as assistant conductor to Jason Rinehart, and has conducted several concerts in the role.
Throughout high school, Wayne was a student of both of the founding conductors of the Baldwin Pops, Steve Sims and Joe Riemer. He received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of South Alabama in 2005 and 2015, respectively. Wayne taught band for 17 years in the public schools of Virginia and Alabama where his bands consistently received superior ratings at assessments in marching, concert, and jazz band settings.

Joe Riemer, a native of New Orleans , La., received his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Music Education at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. He began his teaching career in 1962 serving as band director at Shaw High School and Davidson High School in Mobile, Al. Subsequently, he has been the band director at Faulkner State Community College, Bay Minette Middle School, and Baldwin County High School. See full bio below.

Joe Riemer
Conductor Emeritus and Co-Founder of the Baldwin Pops
Joe Riemer, a native of New Orleans , La., received his Bachelor and Masters degrees in music education at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La. He began his teaching career in 1962 serving as band director at Shaw High School and Davidson High School in Mobile, Al. Subsequently he has been the band director at Faulkner State Community College, Bay Minette Middle School, and Baldwin County High School.
Mr. Riemer was on the board of the Mobile Jazz Festival and was the conductor of its High School All-star Jazz Band, with numerous performances on the Mobile Jazz Festival concert programs. He also holds membership in MENC, the Alabama Bandmasters Association, and the music fraternities Phi Mu Alpha and Phi Beta Mu. He continues to serve as adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor.
Joe is one of the founders of the Mobile Pops and served as one of its co-directors for 10 years. He is also one of the founders of the Baldwin Pops, a community band in Baldwin County, and has served as its music director since its inception in 1997.
Named in 2001 by the Mobile Bay Monthly as one of 25 most influential “Masters of the Arts” for Mobile and Baldwin County, he was also presented, in 2007, with the Fairhope First “Quality of Life” award for his contribution to the enhancement of the quality of life in the Fairhope area. That same year he received the “Arts Volunteer of the Year” award presented by the Mobile Arts Council. In 2008 he was inducted into the Mobile County Band Director’s Hall of Fame and in 2010 he was inducted into the Alabama Music Education Association Hall of Fame.
He and his wife Mary Lou are both retired educators and reside in Fairhope, Al. They have two children and four grandchildren.
